A modern home in a historic district, this house’s steep roof pitch relates to neighboring houses and acts as an inflection point for the slight angle of the facade, which adds a subtle sense of invitation to the front and back porches. The ground-level main living areas are all visible from the bar, where the client mixes cocktails while hosting guests and tending to a growing family. On the second floor, skylights mark the entrance to every bedroom, each ringed with a unique color. Working directly with the Principal, I led the project from SD through early construction. I presented to the neighborhood Historic Commission to win approval for the project, drafted the majority of CDs, and visited the site weekly for early CA. Winner of 2022 Texas Society of Architects and 2021 AIA Houston Design Award, and featured on the 2023 AIA Houston Home Tour.
